WordPress.com is an excellent (free) way to start blogging, and I will continue to use wordpress as a platform. However, there was a sudden and unheralded withdrawal of my site a few weeks ago, which meant I could neither access my posts nor get rid of a nasty message which alleged I had breached their terms and conditions. They later apologised for this and said it had been picked up by some automatic spam-filtering. However, it took a few days to get everything reinstated. For this reason, and because it will be technically a commercial site, I will be moving to wordpress.org once I get the new website up and running. There are just a few additional features which will be useful, such as being able to upload videos, which you can’t do on wordpress.com. Apart from that, it’s very user-friendly, and I still recommend wordpress.com for blogging. (The new website will be http://www.clerktogovernors.co.uk )

Hi,

I’m curious about the exit from wordpress, is there any particular reason behind the move? I am a parent governor at a primary school and I’ve built our new school website using wordpress.com (after a lot of research). But as a keen follower of your blog I am interested in your reasons behind changing?

All governors must remember that the Gttl or indeed the new Governors Handbook were/are not substitutes for the procedures and constitution legislations, but are merely a layman’s assistant to the legislation and should be used in conjunction with each other when necessary.

16th May: Good question – I don’t know … but will find out!
18th May: I am reliably informed that it does apply to academies too.
